Water Webinar series: Linking SDGs 6 + 14: From Source-to-Sea

In September 2015, the United Nations adopted a new agenda for sustainable development (2030 Agenda). The agenda consists of 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) and 169 targets that are integrated and indivisible, balancing the social, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainable development. The relationship between upstream pressures and downstream effects, highlights the importance of coordinating efforts to achieve SDG 6 on freshwater and SDG 14 on oceans wherever possible, and as a minimum, at least considering the broader social, economic and environmental consequences of more damaging actions.

This webinar series aims to highlight the importance of understanding the cross-disciplinary connections to achieve SDG6 on freshwater and SDG14 on oceans, and the value of integrating efforts to reduce negative effects and maximize potential benefits, where feasible. The Source-to-Sea (S2S) Management webinar series will frame the issues and policy options, as well as review some of the most widely used management approaches and how they could better be applied to take account of the Source-to-Sea continuum. The presenters will use their experiences and selected case studies to exemplify application of S2S approaches for specific issues.

The Source-to-Sea Management webinar series is developed in collaboration with SIWI, its Action Platform for Source-to-Sea Management (S2S Platform) and the UNDP Water Governance Facility.
